Over 5,200 majalis, 538 processions to be held in Lahore during Muharram: commissioner

Commissioner Lahore Division Marryam Khan has said that comprehensive arrangements have been finalised for Muharram-ul-Haram across the provincial capital, where 5,235 majalis and 538 processions, including 99 major processions, would be held from 1st to 10th of Muharram.

LAHORE, Jun 17 (APP): Commissioner Lahore Division Marryam Khan has said that comprehensive arrangements have been finalised for Muharram-ul-Haram across the provincial capital, where 5,235 majalis and 538 processions, including 99 major processions, would be held from 1st to 10th of Muharram.
Chairing a meeting on Muharram arrangements attended by organisers and licence holders of processions and majalis as well as officers of various district departments, here on Wednesday, she said that more than 12,000 security and police personnel would perform duties to ensure peace and security during the sacred month.
The commissioner said that processions and majalis had already started from the 1st of Muharram and all necessary arrangements were being put in place. She added that municipal services were being provided on priority basis for majalis and processions to facilitate mourners and organisers.
Directing all departments to remain active in the field, Marryam Khan said there would be no compromise on ensuring foolproof Muharram arrangements. She stressed strict implementation of the Sound Act and adherence to approved timings and routes of processions and religious gatherings.
She also directed the authorities concerned to ensure anti-dengue spraying at all majalis venues and related locations. The commissioner said that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif was personally monitoring and focusing on Muharram arrangements across the province.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Lahore Ali Ijaz said that the district administration was providing all possible facilities along procession routes and at majalis venues. He added that the police, district administration and organisers of majalis and processions were maintaining close coordination to ensure smooth conduct of Muharram activities.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Lahore Ali Ijaz, Additional Commissioner Rao Abdul Jabbar, Additional Commissioner Muhammad Arshad Bhatti, Chief Officer Metropolitan Corporation Lahore Shahid Kathia, Managing Director WASA Ghufran Ahmad, and representatives of police, health, LWMC, Sui Gas, LESCO, parking authorities and the Punjab Food Authority.
