Over 1,500 police personnel deployed for 11th Muharram procession security in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI, Jun 28 (APP): The central 11th Muharram procession concluded peacefully at Darbar Shah Pyara after passing through its traditional routes under stringent security arrangements.
Rawalpindi Police ensured foolproof security and comprehensive traffic management throughout the procession, with senior police officials remaining in the field to personally supervise security operations.
Regional Police Officer (RPO) Babar Sarfraz Alpa, City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Mehmood Hamdani, the SSP Operations, SSP Investigation, Chief Traffic Officer, and SP Potohar visited various points along the procession route, briefed officers on duty, and continuously reviewed security measures.
According to a police spokesperson, more than 1,500 police officers and personnel were deployed to secure the central procession, while over 200 traffic wardens managed traffic flow and diversions. Across the district, more than 8,000 police officers and personnel were deployed on Muharram security duties.
RPO Babar Sarfraz Alpa said foolproof security arrangements were implemented in accordance with the Punjab government’s directives and standard operating procedures (SOPs). He added that the procession and other sensitive locations were monitored continuously through more than 2,000 surveillance cameras installed under the Safe City Rawalpindi project and at other key locations.
CPO Syed Khalid Mehmood Hamdani said strict compliance with the Muharram code of conduct and the Punjab government’s instructions was being ensured. He added that, following the directives of the Inspector General of Police Punjab, Rawalpindi Police remained committed to maintaining round-the-clock security to preserve law and order and ensure the safety of mourners throughout Muharram.
