MULTAN, Apr 23 (APP):The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) carried out a major operation in Khanewal, successfully preventing a serious public health hazard by seizing and destroying a large quantity of unsafe meat.
According to official details, a Food Safety team intercepted a meat transport vehicle and, upon inspection, recovered approximately 1,100 kilograms (over 27 maunds) of foul-smelling, rotten meat. The meat, found in an extremely unhygienic condition—blackened, hardened, and decomposed—was being shifted in a white Suzuki pickup for supply to local butcher shops and hotels in various areas.
A veterinary doctor present at the scene declared the meat unfit for human consumption after an initial examination, citing serious health risks. Acting swiftly, the authorities disposed of the contaminated meat on the spot to prevent any potential distribution.
The vehicle involved was taken into police custody, and a First Information Report (FIR) registered against the suspects.
Speaking on the occasion, Director General PFA, Syed Musa Raza, said that those involved in the illegal trade of meat from diseased or dead animal a “cancer on society,” emphasizing that they endanger public health and harm the national economy.
He further reiterated that the authority will continue its strict and indiscriminate actions against those compromising food safety standards.
