Ombudsperson Punjab urges special campaign for women’s protection

Provincial Ombudsperson Punjab, Dr. Najma Afzal on Monday visited the Social Welfare Complex in Faisalabad, directing authorities to launch a focused awareness campaign on women’s rights, safety and protection mechanisms.

FAISALABAD, Jun 08 (APP): Provincial Ombudsperson Punjab, Dr. Najma Afzal on Monday visited the Social Welfare Complex in Faisalabad, directing authorities to launch a focused awareness campaign on women’s rights, safety and protection mechanisms.
During the visit, she reviewed service delivery of various institutions operating under the Social Welfare Department and was briefed on ongoing initiatives for the welfare of vulnerable groups.
Officials including Director Social Welfare Khalida Rafiq, Deputy Director Rehana Yasmeen, Divisional Coordinator Rana Waris Hussain, Assistant Director Tayyab Bhatti, Social Welfare Officer Muhammad Tahir and District Officer Women Protection Kanwal Shehzadi briefed her on departmental operations.
Representatives of several NGOs were also present.
Dr. Najma Afzal stressed the need for a proactive and coordinated approach to protect women from harassment and ensure effective implementation of safeguard mechanisms.
She called for a sustained awareness campaign through social welfare platforms to strengthen institutional response and outreach.
She appreciated initiatives related to women’s skill development and vocational training, terming them vital for economic empowerment and financial independence.
Officials also presented proposals aimed at improving service delivery and strengthening institutional support for women and other vulnerable segments of society.
The visit was also attended by retired Principal Government College for Women, Ms. Shehnaz Bashir and former EDO Social Welfare Sarfaraz Ahmed.
