LAHORE, Sep 25 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said newspapers remain a credible source of information in the present era of information overload, stressing the need for objective journalism and authentic information.
In her special message on Readers’ Day, the chief minister congratulated journalists associated with print media, office-bearers and members of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS), and representatives of organisations associated with the print media.
She also paid tribute to newspaper readers for maintaining their interest in print journalism, saying newspapers had played an important role in creating awareness among people and guiding public opinion throughout history.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif said newspapers had awakened the spirit of freedom during the Pakistan Movement, while the role of journalists alongside political activities during the freedom struggle remained an important part of history.
She appreciated the editorial checks in newspapers that help prevent the dissemination of false and misleading information, calling the practice worthy of emulation.
The chief minister said her passion for reading newspapers was inherited and she still read newspapers whenever she found time. She said the relevance of print media would remain intact despite the rise of digital and social media.
