LAHORE, Oct 08 (APP):The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Lahore Zone apprehended 26 suspects, including 17 women and nine men, during two separate operations targeting honey-trap and fraudulent call centers on Thursday.
According to a spokesperson, the first raid led to the arrest of 17 women who were allegedly running an online honey-trap network. The suspects reportedly approached male victims via various digital platforms, cultivated relationships through prolonged conversations, and subsequently lured them into video calls.
Investigators stated that the syndicate utilized inappropriate conversations and video interactions to maintain the victims’ engagement before extorting online gifts and other financial benefits. Authorities recovered 35 mobile phones and two laptops from the suspects, and a case (No. 234/26) was registered.
In a separate operation, the NCCIA raided another call center located in Allama Iqbal Town, which was allegedly targeting UK nationals through fraudulent offers regarding mobile phone replacements and communication services.
The syndicate members allegedly contacted foreign citizens, offering promotional packages and mobile devices on the pretext that delivery would follow payment. However, once funds were received, the suspects failed to deliver the items, kept the victims strung along with false delivery dates, and refused refunds.
Nine men were arrested during this raid, with law enforcement seizing 10 mobile phones and five laptops from their possession.
Further investigation in both cases was underway.
