NAB awareness workshop highlights public servants’ role in curbing corruption

BAHAWALPUR, Aug 20 (APP): An awareness workshop titled “Highlighting the Role of Public Servants in Fostering a Corruption-Free Society” was organised by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Multan, in collaboration with the Commissioner Bahawalpur Division, at the Committee Room of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness among government officers and employees about the importance of transparency, accountability, integrity, merit and ethical governance in public service. Officers from various government departments and public-sector organisations participated in the interactive session.
Vice Chancellor of The Islamia University of Bahawalpur Prof Dr Muhammad Kamran, Principal Quaid-e-Azam Medical College Prof Dr Sofia Farooq, Director General Parks and Horticulture Authority Dr Nair Mustafa, officers from various government institutions and other distinguished personalities also attended the event.
Dr Nair Mustafa participated as a resource person and delivered a detailed lecture on integrity, ethical values and the role of public servants in combating corruption. He said public servants were an important part of the state machinery and their conduct had a direct impact on public trust in government institutions.
He stressed that corruption could be effectively discouraged by ensuring transparency, merit, adherence to the law and accountability in the discharge of official responsibilities.
Addressing the session through video link, Commissioner Bahawalpur Division Irfan Ali Kathia said building a corruption-free society was not the responsibility of any single institution but required collective and sustained efforts.
He urged public servants to perform their duties with honesty, impartiality and a strong sense of responsibility to strengthen public confidence in government institutions. He emphasised that, alongside accountability, greater awareness, ethical training and the promotion of positive values were essential to eliminating corruption from society.
The Commissioner said government officers could promote transparency within their institutions through their conduct and serve as role models for citizens.
The speakers observed that corruption adversely affected national development, institutional performance and public confidence. They stressed the need for individuals at every level to demonstrate responsibility and integrity to effectively combat the menace.
They said making integrity, transparency and accountability fundamental components of the public administration system could help lay the foundation for a strong, efficient and corruption-free society.
During the interactive session, participants discussed anti-corruption measures, ethical values, the responsibilities of public servants and transparent governance. They also raised questions, which were addressed by the speakers, who highlighted the responsibilities of public officials and practical measures to prevent corruption.
At the conclusion, NAB Multan Director Abdul Khaliq, Additional Director NAB Multan Tousif Hanif and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Municipal Services) Dr Ayesha Khan thanked the guests, officers and participants for attending the workshop.
The participants described the session as useful and informative, saying such programmes played an important role in enhancing public servants’ awareness of anti-corruption measures, integrity and ethical responsibilities.
