Minister Salman takes briefing on cancer hospital plan
SARGODHA, Sep 28 (APP): A meeting was held at the Commissioner’s Office under the chairmanship of Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique, in which Secretary Health Azmat Mahmood, Deputy Commissioner Hussain Ahmed Raza Chaudhry, Deputy Commissioner Mianwali Shahid Abbas Kathia, Additional Commissioner Coordination Ashfaq Ahmed Khan and other relevant officers of the Health Department participated.
A detailed briefing was given in the meeting regarding the establishment of a proposed 100-bed cancer hospital in Sargodha under the people-friendly and health-friendly vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
The Provincial Health Minister was informed about the various sites suggested by the Deputy Commissioner Sargodha for the establishment of the hospital, their suitability and other related matters. The briefing said that the proposed cancer hospital will be equipped with modern medical equipment and machinery to provide modern diagnostic and treatment facilities to patients under one roof, including single energy ring-based linear, accelerator, CT simulator, mammography unit, cyber knife device, 128 slice CT scan, radiation machinery and PET scan, among other modern facilities.
In the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Mianwali Shahid Abbas Kathia gave a detailed briefing regarding the Maryam Nawaz Medical College and Teaching Hospital Mianwali project. He informed about the progress made on phase one of the project, ongoing construction and development works and the situation related to the start of phase two. The Deputy Commissioner also gave a detailed briefing on the physical progress of the project so far, establishment of various departments and ongoing steps to make the hospital functional.
Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique said that on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, major projects are underway in the health sector to provide quality and modern medical facilities to the people of the province near their doorsteps. The proposed cancer hospital in Sargodha is also an important part of this people-friendly vision. He directed that the sites proposed for the cancer hospital should be reviewed from all aspects and final recommendations should be formulated and unnecessary delays should not be allowed in the progress of the project.
He said that provision of modern diagnostic and treatment facilities along with timely provision of quality treatment to patients is among the top priorities of the government.
The Health Secretary said that the Punjab government is taking practical steps to provide modern facilities in the health sector and increase the capacity of hospitals. The ongoing and proposed health projects in Sargodha and Mianwali will be taken forward according to the set targets, while the quality, speed of construction work and timely completion of projects will be ensured.
