LAHORE, Jul 20 (APP): A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Provincial Minister for Communications Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharat to review the preparations for monsoon rains and possible flood situations.
Secretary for Communications and Works (C&W) Raja Jahangir Anwar, Chief Engineers and Executive Engineers (Executive Engineers) attended the meeting.
The meeting was directed to immediately inspect the roads, bridges and culverts that may be affected by the flood.
Official sources said that in addition, emphasis was also placed on ensuring immediate cleaning of blocked drains, culverts and waterways so that there was no obstruction in drainage during the rains.
The provincial minister directed that emergency response teams should be on high alert 24 hours during the monsoon season and sandbags, warning signs and de-watering pumps should be kept available at sensitive locations in advance.
He also directed that sensitive highways should be continuously monitored during the rains, advance alternative traffic plans should be prepared for potentially affected roads and immediate restoration of roads and bridges affected by rain or flood should be ensured.
Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bherth also directed the officers concerned to maintain constant contact with the district administration, Rescue 1122 and the Irrigation Department so that timely and effective action could be taken in any emergency situation.
