Minister Bharth orders enforcement against overloading on highways
LAHORE, Sep 23 (APP):Punjab Minister for Communication and Works (C&W) Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bharth on Wednesday directed the Highway Department to launch the enforcement phase against overloaded vehicles after successfully completing the establishment and monitoring phase of the Axle Load Management System (ALMS).
He issued the directions while chairing a meeting to review the functioning of mobile weigh stations installed in five districts and data collected regarding overloading on highways.
The meeting was briefed that the establishment and monitoring phase for checking overloaded vehicles had been successfully completed, while data on overloading on highways was also presented.
The minister directed the department to prepare Terms of Reference (TORs) for outsourcing the operation of mobile weigh stations to further strengthen the enforcement mechanism.
Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bharth said preventing damage to highways caused by overloading was a top priority of the government. He said the Highway Department had worked day and night to make the mobile weigh stations functional.
The minister appreciated the officers concerned for operationalising the mobile weigh stations and compiling the overloading data.
C&W Secretary Raja Jahangir Anwar, Special Secretary, Additional Secretary and ALMS officers attended the meeting, while XENs of Attock, Jhang, Multan and Sargodha participated online.
