Merit-based selection completes for CM Kabaddi Championship 2026

RAWALPINDI, Jun 12 (APP): Divisional-level trials for the selection of the Rawalpindi Division team for the Chief Minister Punjab Kabaddi Championship 2026 concluded successfully at the Sawar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed Nishan-e-Haider Cricket Stadium in Gujar Khan.
Under the Punjab government’s “Khelta Punjab, Barhta Punjab” initiative, the trials attracted talented players from all four districts of Rawalpindi Division, including Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal, who showcased their technical skills, physical fitness and commitment to the traditional sport.
A large number of young athletes from colleges, universities and other educational institutions participated in the event, with intense competition and spirited performances making the trials highly competitive.
The selection committee evaluated the players in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Pakistan Kabaddi Federation and selected the best performers on merit to represent Rawalpindi Division in the upcoming Chief Minister of Punjab Kabaddi Championship.
Assistant Commissioner Gujar Khan Khizar Zahoor Goraya attended the event as the chief guest. Divisional Sports Officer Chaudhry Waheed Ahmed, District Sports Officer Shams Tohid Abbasi, Tehsil Sports Officer Mazhar Sher, Finance Secretary of the Punjab Kabaddi Association Raja Mumtaz, Provincial Coach Shafqatullah Khan Niazi and other officials of the Sports Department were also present.
The guests praised the players for their outstanding performances and said kabaddi, as one of Pakistan’s traditional and popular sports, deserved greater promotion and institutional support.
They said such competitions not only provided young people with opportunities to demonstrate their abilities but also encouraged them to engage in healthy and positive activities, contributing to the development of a vibrant society.
Speaking on the occasion, Divisional Sports Officer Chaudhry Waheed Ahmed said the Punjab Sports Department was organising various competitions and trials across the province to identify emerging talent and promote sports among the younger generation.
He expressed confidence that the Rawalpindi Division players had demonstrated exceptional potential during the trials and hoped the selected team would achieve notable success in the Chief Minister of Punjab Kabaddi Championship.
The trials concluded in a transparent, organised and congenial atmosphere, while participants and members of the sporting community appreciated the Punjab Sports Department’s efforts to expand opportunities for young athletes and promote traditional games.
