MEPCO launches pilot project for APMS

The Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) has formally launched the pilot implementation of the Asset Performance Management System (APMS) in line with the directions of the Ministry of Energy (Power Division).

MULTAN, Jun 30 (APP): The Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) has formally launched the pilot implementation of the Asset Performance Management System (APMS) in line with the directions of the Ministry of Energy (Power Division).
Under the initiative, MEPCO Chief Executive Officer Engineer Gul Muhammad Zahid has been appointed as Project Director (APMS) to oversee the execution of the project.
In the first phase, the APMS will be implemented on 15 selected feeders across the MEPCO region. The system will enable effective monitoring of transformer-level energy flow, billing, recovery, line losses and other operational activities, improving transparency and efficiency in the power distribution network.
The project includes transformer coding, consumer-to-transformer tagging, GIS mapping, installation of scanning meters, transformer-level energy accounting and integration of APMS data with the Pakistan Information Technology Company (PITC)’s advanced systems and dashboards.
According to an office order issued by Chief Human Resource and Career Planning Officer Mian Muhammad Sohail Afzal, all required financial, technical and human resources will be provided to ensure timely completion of the project. Regular coordination with field formations, periodic review meetings and weekly progress reports to the Ministry of Energy (Power Division) and the Power Planning and Monitoring Company (PPMC) will also be ensured.
The primary objective of the project is to reduce commercial losses, improve recovery, enhance electricity sales and provide consumers with more efficient, transparent and high-quality services.
Main Sohail said the APMS marks a significant step towards the adoption of modern technology in the electricity distribution system.
The availability of accurate and timely transformer-level data will support informed decision-making, reduce line losses, improve recoveries and ensure more effective utilisation of resources.
He added that all MEPCO formations would work in close coordination to ensure the successful completion of the project and achieve the targets set by the Ministry of Energy within the stipulated timeframe.
