MCCI president hails democratic tradition, pledges support to new leadership

MULTAN, Sep 30 (APP): Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) President Mian Bakhtawar Tanvir Sheikh said that the chamber had set a new example of democratic traditions by ensuring a smooth transition of power and holding free, fair and impartial elections.

He expressed these views while addressing a dinner hosted in honour of newly elected MCCI President Dr Muhammad Shafiq Patafi, Senior Vice President Athar Mumtaz Tipu, outgoing and newly elected executive committee members, former office-bearers, corporate and associate members, women members and leaders of the Founders and Friends of Multan groups.

He said his two-year performance as MCCI president was the result of teamwork and that every possible effort had been made for industrial development, establishment of new industries and creation of employment opportunities in Multan and South Punjab.

He said he had fulfilled his commitment to ensure free, fair and impartial elections at the chamber and also provided MCCI with a state-of-the-art building.

He expressed hope that the newly elected office-bearers and executive body would take all possible measures for the promotion of trade and industry. He assured that the Founders Group would extend full cooperation to the new leadership.

The MCCI members appreciated the services of Mian Bakhtawar Tanvir Sheikh, saying that he had promoted mutual respect, tolerance and harmony in chamber affairs and established a new democratic tradition.

MCCI President elect Dr Muhammad Shafiq Patafi congratulated the chamber staff for conducting transparent, free and impartial elections and said the process had won the confidence of the entire business community.

He said senior members should guide the new leadership and stressed that there was no grouping in the chamber after the elections.

“The election ended at 5p.m. on September 16; now we are all united,” he said, adding that the business community would work together for industrial and commercial development in Multan and South Punjab.

Founders Group leader and former FPCCI president Mian Tanvir Ahmed Sheikh said the chamber had successfully completed the process of peaceful and smooth transition of power following transparent elections.

He assured that the Founders Group would extend full cooperation to the newly elected leadership of MCCI.

Former MCCI presidents Khawaja Muhammad Yousuf, Mian Rashid Iqbal, Khawaja Muhammad Hussain, Sheikh Fazal Elahi, Khawaja Muhammad Usman and Mian Fareed Mughis Sheikh, as well as All Pakistan Anjuman-e-Tajran Central Chairman Khawaja Muhammad Shafiq, APBUMA Chairman Khawaja Muhammad Qasim and newly elected President of the Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industry Khawaja Ammar Yasir were among those attending.

A large number of traders, industrialists and representatives of the business community attended the dinner.
