RAWALPINDI, May 12 (APP):Maarka-e-Haq Square, formerly known as Katchery Chowk was opened for traffic on Tuesday after completion of a major remodelling project aimed at easing congestion at one of Rawalpindi’s busiest intersections.
The project, completed within six months, included the construction of three underpasses and three flyovers to facilitate uninterrupted traffic flow.
In a statement, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi Farhan Aslam said more than 200,000 vehicles would now be able to pass through the intersection daily without disruption.
He said traffic had remained diverted to alternative routes during the construction work under a comprehensive traffic management plan.
The CTO said keeping more than 200,000 vehicles moving on alternate routes throughout the project was a significant challenge, adding that effective planning and strategy helped avert major traffic problems across the city.
Farhan Aslam said over 750 traffic police officers and personnel performed round-the-clock duties to ensure smooth vehicular movement during the remodelling work.
He said citizens were continuously informed about the traffic situation through social and other media platforms.
The CTO appreciated the efforts of traffic police personnel and thanked citizens for their cooperation and patience despite temporary road closures and diversions.
He said the Rawalpindi Traffic Police would continue efforts to provide best traffic facilities to the road users.
