Local Government Secretary Inspects Municipal Operations, Orders Action Over Negligence
RAWALPINDI, Sep 19 (APP):Secretary of the Punjab Local Government and Community Development Department Zaid Bin Maqsood conducted surprise inspections in Gujar Khan and Rawalpindi on Saturday to assess municipal operations, record management and civic service delivery.
Accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Captain (Retd) Nadeem Nasir and the Assistant Commissioner Gujar Khan, the secretary visited several Union Council offices, where he reviewed public registers, attendance records and arrangements for facilitating citizens.
According to an official press release, Zaid ordered the immediate issuance of a show-cause notice to a Union Council secretary over negligence in official duties, stressing that administrative lapses would not be tolerated.
He later inspected the Municipal Committee office in Gujar Khan and reviewed departmental procedures, public grievance redressal mechanisms and local governance records.
Following the field visits, the secretary chaired a comprehensive review meeting at the DC Rawalpindi Office to assess sanitation, municipal performance and ongoing interventions under the Suthra Punjab initiative.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Social Services Fazail Mudassar, assistant commissioners, the Deputy Director Development, Chief Officer District Council and senior local government officials.
Addressing the meeting, Zaid directed administrative officers to strengthen field supervision, streamline waste management systems and ensure the prompt resolution of public complaints at all levels of local government.
He also inspected a designated Suthra Punjab waste disposal facility and reviewed sanitation conditions along major transit routes, including GT Road. He directed officials to maintain uninterrupted monitoring and ensure cleanliness standards across the district.
