LHC rejects plea to postpone MDCAT scheduled for August 16

LAHORE, Aug 06 (APP): The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday dismissed a petition seeking the postponement of the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) scheduled for August 16.

Justice Mirza Waqas Rauf heard the petition filed by an FSc student, Talha. The petitioner’s counsel argued that hundreds of students were currently appearing in their FSc practical examinations and, therefore, had not been given sufficient time to prepare for the MDCAT.

He contended that holding the entrance test on the scheduled date would jeopardise the academic future of hundreds of aspiring medical students.

During the hearing, the court asked whether the students would be ineligible to sit the MDCAT examination. Counsel for the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) replied that all eligible students would be allowed to appear in the test.

The court then asked the petitioner’s counsel what the actual issue was if the students were eligible to take the examination. In response, the counsel said the concern was the lack of adequate preparation time.

The petitioner’s lawyer further informed the court that hundreds of students were gathered outside the courtroom in support of the plea. However, the court remarked, “Only one petitioner is before us. Why are you claiming to represent everyone?”

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court dismissed the petition seeking postponement of the MDCAT examination.
