LHC judge recuses himself from hearing plea against Moonis Elahi’s asset confiscation

LAHORE, Jun 15 (APP): A judge of a two-member bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday recused himself from hearing a petition challenging the confiscation of assets belonging to Moonis Elahi, son of former Punjab chief minister Parvez Elahi.
Following the recusal, the two-member bench ceased to function, marking the second time that a division bench has declined to hear the matter. An earlier two-member bench had also recused itself from hearing the petition.
The case filed by Qaisara Elahi came up for hearing before a division bench headed by Justice Tariq Nadeem. During the proceedings, Justice Ali Zia Bajwa expressed his inability to hear the case and recused himself.
Subsequently, the bench referred the matter to the Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court with a recommendation for the constitution of a new bench to hear the petition.
Qaisara Elahi has challenged an accountability court’s decision ordering the confiscation of assets belonging to her son, Moonis Elahi. In her petition, she requested the court to set aside the accountability court’s ruling and declare it void.
