LHC extends suspension of PMDC notifications directing Afghan medical students to leave Pakistan

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday granted the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) more time to submit its reply to a petition challenging notifications directing Afghan students enrolled in medical colleges across Punjab to return to their home country.

LAHORE, Oct 16 (APP): The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday granted the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) more time to submit its reply to a petition challenging notifications directing Afghan students enrolled in medical colleges across Punjab to return to their home country.
Justice Khalid Ishaq heard the petition filed by 30 Afghan students. During the proceedings, the PMDC’s counsel sought additional time to submit a response, which the court allowed.
The court also extended its earlier order suspending the PMDC notifications directing the Afghan students to leave Pakistan.
The petitioners, including Syed Mubeen-ul-Fati, have challenged PMDC notifications issued on July 31 and September 1, directing Afghan medical students to return to their home country.
They contended that neither the PMDC nor the educational institutions concerned had the legal authority to remove them from their medical programmes.
The petitioners have asked the court to declare the notifications unlawful and set them aside.
