Legal policy reforms to protect women’s rights urged

RAWALPINDI, Oct 13 (APP): Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA), Tahira Mushtaq, on Tuesday urged comprehensive statutory reforms and rigorous enforcement of the Punjab Protection of Women Against Violence Act to eliminate procedural delays in domestic violence cases and ensure legislative protections reach vulnerable women.
During a visit to the Women Protection Center Rawalpindi, the Tahira met with Rizwana Bushra, District Women Protection Officer to examine statutory enforcement gaps, case disposal mechanisms, and institutional compliance across district departments.
The review stressed the need for policy amendments to enforce mandatory pre-marital legal rights literacy, ensuring women are fully cognizant of their statutory protections under the law prior to entering marital contracts to curb domestic litigation.
The parliamentary emphasized that institutional protection frameworks must be backed by strict legal accountability and stronger inter-departmental coordination between police, health, and judicial authorities to streamline justice delivery for survivors.
The meeting resolved to utilize the upcoming “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” campaign to push for policy-level advocacy, stricter statutory compliance, and actionable institutional mechanisms across the division.
