LAHORE, Jun 10 (APP): Commissioner Lahore Division Marryam Khan on Wednesday stressed the vital role of religious scholars in promoting inter-sect harmony and maintaining peace during Muharram-ul-Haram.
She expressed these views while chairing a Lahore Division Peace Committee meeting jointly with RPO Sheikhupura Range Athar Ismail to review security and administrative arrangements for Muharram.
The meeting was attended by prominent religious scholars, prayer leaders, peace committee members, Deputy Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Ali Ijaz, DIG Operations Dr Faisal Kamran and deputy commissioners and district police officers from across Lahore Division.
The Commissioner said Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif was personally monitoring Muharram arrangements and law and order measures. She urged religious leaders to verify information with the administration before sharing it and help counter rumours that could create discord.
She said religious scholars played a key role in fostering unity and urged them to use the pulpit to promote mutual respect, religious tolerance and the sanctity of Muharram. Maintaining peace and harmony, she added, was a shared responsibility of both the administration and society.
Religious scholars and prayer leaders assured the administration of their full cooperation for the peaceful observance of Muharram. They expressed their commitment to promoting Muslim unity and preventing any elements from disturbing communal harmony.
