IUB moves closer to establishing British Council IELTS Centre

BAHAWALPUR, Jul 02 (APP):The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) has taken a significant step towards establishing a British Council IELTS Training and Testing Centre on its campus, aiming to provide students in south Punjab with access to internationally recognised English language testing facilities.
As part of the British Council’s approval process, a mock IELTS examination was conducted at the proposed centre. Students participated in all four IELTS modules, including Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking to assess the centre’s compliance with international testing standards.
To ensure adherence to British Council and IELTS requirements, Assistant Professor Department of English Linguistics Misbah Roshin Khan has been appointed as the dedicated IELTS instructor. The proposed centre is being developed under her supervision with a strong focus on meeting all international operational and academic standards.
Upon receiving formal approval from the British Council, the centre will enable students to take the internationally recognized IELTS examination at IUB, eliminating the need to travel to cities such as Lahore, Karachi or Islamabad. The initiative is expected to make IELTS testing more accessible and convenient for students aspiring to pursue higher education and professional opportunities abroad.
Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Kamran said the university is taking comprehensive measures to promote information technology, digital literacy and internationally competitive skills among students. He noted that modern training programmes are already being offered through the university’s Information Technology Centre and that the establishment of an IELTS testing facility would further expand opportunities for students seeking admission to leading universities around the world.
The mock test was attended by Director IT Dr Faisal Shahzad, Chairperson of the Department of Artificial Intelligence Professor Dr. Najia Sahar, Professor Dr. Samar Fahad, Director Public Relations Dr Shahzad Ahmed Khalid, Executive Secretary Dr Muhammad Khalid, In-charge AI Centre Farid Zamir, In-charge PMYDC Asad Naeem, and other faculty and staff members.
