MULTAN, Jun 26 (APP):Punjab Education Minister,Rana Sikandar Hayat said the provincial government was pursuing a zero-tolerance policy to ensure peace and maintain law and order during Muharram,adding that extremism had been rejected by all sections of society.
The minister,accompanied by Special Assistant Salma Butt,visited Ashura processions at Ghanta Ghar Chowk and Haram Gate before inspecting the Safe City Control Room.
Commissioner Aamir Karim Khan and RPO Usman Gondal briefed the delegation on security arrangements and monitoring mechanisms for Youm-e-Ashura.
Commissioner Aamir Karim Khan said 224 majalis and 283 processions were being held across Multan Division, with all sensitive gatherings linked to the Safe City surveillance system.
RPO Usman Gondal said more than 13,000 security personnel had been deployed to maintain peace.
Deputy Commissioner(DC),Nauman Siddique said CCTV cameras had been installed at all key locations across the city while representatives of all relevant departments were present in the District Control Room to ensure coordinated monitoring and a swift emergency response.
CPO Sadiq Dogar said members of the Peace Committee and religious scholars were working alongside the administration and police to help maintain a peaceful atmosphere throughout Youm-e-Ashura.
