LAHORE, Aug 19 (APP):SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry former President Iftikhar Ali Malik has welcomed the opening of Google’s office in Pakistan,saying the development would significantly contribute to transforming the country into a major information technology (IT) export hub.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday,he described the establishment of Google’s office as a landmark development for Pakistan’s technology sector and said it would help the country achieve its ambitious target of increasing IT exports to $30 billion.
He said Google had entered the Pakistani market at a time when the country was undergoing rapid digital transformation, particularly in governance and public service delivery.
He said the presence of a global technology leader would create new opportunities for Pakistani IT professionals, software developers,entrepreneurs and technology start-ups by providing greater access to advanced digital tools,global expertise and international markets. He added that Pakistan possessed a large pool of talented young IT professionals whose capabilities could become a significant source of foreign exchange earnings through sound policies, enhanced skill development and stronger partnerships with leading international technology companies.
He stressed the need for increased investment in digital infrastructure, broadband connectivity, artificial intelligence, cloud computing and other emerging technologies to fully harness the country’s vast IT potential.
Expressing optimism about the future, he said Google’s presence would strengthen Pakistan’s position in the global technology ecosystem and accelerate the country’s digital and economic growth.
