GCWUS holds literary session to promote Iqbal’s philosophy

SIALKOT, Jul 11 (APP): The Government College Women University (GCWU) Sialkot on Saturday held a weekly literary session at its Allama Muhammad Iqbal Center of Excellence to highlight the philosophy and thought of Allama Muhammad Iqbal.

According to a university statement, noted Iqbal scholar Professor Rana Ejaz Hussain, the guest speaker stressed the need to introduce Iqbal’s ideas to the younger generation, saying literary gatherings played an important role in the intellectual and moral development of students.

He also felicitated Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor, Dr. Shazia Bashir on the establishment of the Allama Muhammad Iqbal Center of Excellence at the university.

Students presented recitations of Iqbal’s poetry during the event and were awarded cash prizes for their performances.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Dr. Shazia Bashir said the university was committed to promoting Iqbal’s philosophy and would continue efforts to develop the center into a dedicated research facility.

Professor Dr. Shehzad Naseem and Professor Dr. Saira Riaz, Director of the Center of Excellence in Solid State Physics at the University of the Punjab also attended the session and appreciated the students’ performances.

Faculty members, heads of academic departments and a large number of students participated in the event, which concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Muhammad Afzal Butt.
