Foolproof security arrangements being finalized for Muharram processions
RAWALPINDI, Jun 04 (APP):Regional Police Officer (RPO) Rawalpindi, Babar Sarfraz Alpa, has said that comprehensive and foolproof security arrangements were being finalized for Muharram-ul-Haram processions and religious gatherings across the Rawalpindi Region to ensure the maintenance of peace and law and order.
The RPO made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation of the Sunni Ulema Council and detailed discussions were held regarding security measures and coordination among stakeholders for the peaceful observance of Muharram.
Participants of the meeting reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining the exemplary atmosphere of peace and harmony in the region during Muharram. Religious scholars assured the police and district administration of their full cooperation in ensuring law and order throughout the month.
Babar Sarfraz Alpa said that CCTV monitoring of processions and majalis, comprehensive search and sweep operations, and the deployment of snipers at sensitive locations would be ensured as part of the security plan.
He added that district-level control rooms had been established and would monitor the situation round the clock during Muharram.
The RPO further stated that alternative traffic routes and a comprehensive traffic management plan would be issued to facilitate smooth traffic flow during processions and religious gatherings.
He warned that strict legal action would be taken against individuals involved in spreading religious hatred, sectarianism, or provocative content, adding that the Punjab government’s SOPs would be implemented in letter and spirit.
Emphasizing the significance of Muharram, the RPO said the sacred month promotes the values of peace, tolerance, and brotherhood. He expressed confidence that, with the cooperation of religious scholars and stakeholders from all schools of thought, a peaceful environment would be maintained throughout the region.
