A team from the Food Department on Tuesday was attacked by suspected wheat smugglers within the jurisdiction of Kallurkot Police Station, leaving several officials injured.

KALLURKOT, Jun 16 (APP):A team from the Food Department on Tuesday was attacked by suspected wheat smugglers within the jurisdiction of Kallurkot Police Station, leaving several officials injured.

According to official sources, the Assistant Food Controller has told the police that six identified and 16 unidentified suspects attacked the team.

The police said that on a tip-off, a Food Department team conducted a raid at Akra Kanjan Nasheeb and intercepted a pickup vehicle loaded with wheat. The wheat was allegedly being smuggled from Shah Alam to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

During the operation, the suspects allegedly attacked the raiding team with sticks and obstructed government officials from performing their duties. Several Food Department personnel were injured in the incident.

The suspects fled the scene, abandoning the wheat-laden vehicle.

The police registered a case against the accused and launched investigations.
