CHINIOT, Jul 24 (APP):A nearly 50-foot-wide breach opened in a drainage canal near Kanju Mor on the Jhang road bypass the district on Friday, flooding several acres of standing crops, the district administration source said.
The breach occurred after water pressure in the canal increased due to a flood wave in the River, Chenab causing the canal to overflow and inundate nearby farmland, according to preliminary official reports.
The deputy commissioner visited the site with officials from relevant departments to assess the damage and oversee the response.
The emergency teams from the Irrigation Department, Rescue 1122 and the district administration launched operations to plug the breach and prevent further flooding.
The district authorities said the affected area was under continuous monitoring and that all available resources were being deployed to seal the breach as quickly as possible.
They added that measures were also being taken to reduce losses for farmers and safeguard surrounding agricultural lands.
