RAWALPINDI, Apr 13 (APP):Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU), in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE), on Monday launched the Mentoring Programme for Universities (MPU) to promote a mentoring culture within the institution.
The initiative began with an orientation session focusing on core competencies required for effective mentoring. During the session Prof Dr. Sarwat Rasul highlighted key skills including active listening, reflective engagement and goal-oriented guidance. A second session titled “The Connect Effect: Owning Your Role in Meaningful Mentorship” was held conducted by Dr. Huma Ayub emphasizing the importance of building meaningful connections.
She encouraged participants to take ownership of their personal and professional development. According to the organizers, the MPU cohort at FJWU comprises 10 mentors and 18 mentees, including faculty members and administrative staff. The three-month programme includes six structured mentoring sessions aimed at promoting continuous learning, professional growth and collaborative engagement.
The university spokesperson said the initiative aligned with the national vision of NAHE and HEC to institutionalise mentoring practices across higher education institutions, fostering leadership development, improving communication skills and creating an inclusive academic environment. They said the programme provides a structured framework in which mentors act as facilitators and learning partners, helping mentees set goals, overcome challenges and achieve their potential.
The university reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence, capacity building and promotion of a progressive learning environment through such initiatives.
