FIA arrests alleged human smuggler for trafficking Pakistani national to Libya
DERA GHAZI KHAN, Nov 03 (APP):The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Tuesday arrested an alleged human smuggler accused of trafficking a Pakistani citizen to Libya on the pretext of arranging employment in Italy.
According to FIA officials,the accused,identified as Zahid Ahmad,son of Ali Muhammad and r/o Gulshan Abad Colony, Dera Ghazi Khan, was arrested on November 2 in connection with FIR No.89/2026,registered under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Smuggling of Migrants Act, 2018,and the Emigration Ordinance,1979.
The case was registered after Hammad Ahmed, r/oDera Ghazi Khan was deported from Libya to Pakistan on October 29.
During the investigation,it emerged that the accused, along with his alleged accomplice,Rizwan Ahmed Shamas,a r/o Lahore,had lured the victim with promises of lucrative employment in Italy and arranged his departure from Pakistan in October 2025.
However,instead of facilitating his travel to Italy,the suspects allegedly sent him through Nepal to Libya,where he was handed over to foreign agents.
The victim was reportedly subjected to physical torture,illegal confinement and inhumane treatment in Libya while the agents repeatedly demanded money from his family.
According to the investigation,approximately Rs.8.05 million was allegedly extorted from the victim’s family through cash payments and bank transactions in Pakistan.
The FIA said further investigation was underway to arrest the remaining suspect,trace the financial transactions and identify other members of the suspected human smuggling network.
The arrest was made by a team comprising Sub-Inspector(SI) Ahmed and Muhammad Noman, FC, under the supervision of the Deputy Director,FIA Crime Circle,Dera Ghazi Khan,on the directions of the Director FIA Multan Zone.
