ATTOCK, May 19 (APP): Police in Jand launched a major crackdown on illegal gold mining operations, arresting eight suspects allegedly involved in unauthorized extraction activities in the area, officials said on Tuesday.
According to police sources, the accused were carrying out illegal mining in violation of mining regulations and environmental protection laws. Acting on intelligence reports, police conducted a targeted operation and apprehended the suspects at the mining site.
During the raid, law enforcement personnel also seized machinery, excavation tools, and other equipment allegedly being used for illegal gold extraction. Authorities said the confiscated items had been taken into custody as evidence.
Police said cases had been registered against all eight suspects, while further investigations were underway to trace other individuals linked to the illegal mining network. Officials vowed to continue operations against unlawful mining activities to curb environmental degradation and protect natural resources.
