RAWALPINDI, Aug 16 (APP): An important meeting was held in the chair of Additional Deputy Commissioner Headquarters ADCG Maliha Sehar to review measures for eliminating professional begging and making the anti-begging campaign more effective across the district.
Officials from the relevant departments attended the meeting, where a detailed review was conducted of ongoing operations against professional beggars, progress on the anti-begging campaign and the future course of action.
Maliha Sehar directed the concerned officers to intensify and streamline operations against professional begging. She ordered special measures at major roads, intersections, traffic signals, markets, commercial centres and other public places to curb the practice.
She said professional begging was not only a social issue but also a source of inconvenience for citizens.
Therefore, all relevant departments must coordinate closely and take effective measures to address the problem.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner further directed officials to deal sympathetically with deserving and genuinely needy individuals and connect them with available government welfare programmes.
She also ordered legal action against elements who force children into begging.
Officials were instructed to monitor the anti-begging campaign on a daily basis and prepare regular reports on the actions taken.
Participants also presented their suggestions for further strengthening the campaign and making Rawalpindi free from professional begging.
