DPO Murree for intensifying field enforcement and launch rigorous inspections of school vans

RAWALPINDI, Sep 29 (APP): District Police Officer (DPO) Murree, Dr. Raza Tanveer Sipra on Tuesday directed the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Murree and district police teams to intensify field enforcement and launch rigorous inspections targeting school transport and commercial passenger vehicles. He reiterated that no compromise would be made on vehicle fitness, traffic laws and public safety.

According to DPO, traffic authorities took stringent enforcement measures during August and September, issuing 11,092 challans to 10,808 violating vehicles, imposing fines totaling over Rs 15.87 million. Enforcement included 1,682 actions against passenger overloading and 566 against goods overloading.

Additionally, 78 challans were issued, Rs 234,000 in fines imposed, and 3 FIRs registered against public transport vehicles operating with substandard and hazardous gas cylinders.

The enforcement report further revealed that 576 vehicles were penalized for operating without route permits, 11 for lacking valid fitness certificates, 215 for driving without a valid license, 59 for underage driving and 57 for lacking vehicle registration.

Furthermore, 1,956 motorcyclists, 1,837 vehicle drivers and other 1,764 were fined for violations including helmets, cell phone usage etc., while 673 were fined for lane violations, 208 for disrupting traffic flow and 193 for illegal parking.

DPO Dr. Raza Tanveer Sipra reaffirmed that public safety remains the top priority, reiterating that no leniency will be extended to transporters operating unfit or non-compliant vehicles. He further instructed commercial drivers to equip vehicles with certified fire extinguishers and receive mandatory safety handling training to prevent catastrophic accidents.
