DC reviews drainage preparedness ahead of monsoon season

to review preparations for the upcoming monsoon season, with a particular focus on desilting
drains, sewers, and the city’s drainage network.
According to the spokesperson for the DC office here, the meeting was attended by the managing director of WASA, representatives of the Cantonment Board, the superintending engineer, the executive engineer (Drainage), and other relevant officials.
Participants reviewed the ongoing desilting operations across the city and assessed arrangements being made to tackle potential urban flooding during the monsoon rains.
Officials briefed the DC on the progress of the desilting campaign, available machinery, deployment of workforce, and measures taken to improve the drainage system in various localities.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Hussain Ahmad Raza Chaudhry directed all concerned departments to ensure the timely and comprehensive desilting of major and minor drains, sewers, and drainage channels in accordance with the directives of the Punjab government.
He issued special instructions for the immediate cleaning of drains and sewers along University Road and other critical drainage points across the city, emphasizing that the drainage system must remain fully operational to prevent water accumulation and minimize inconvenience to residents during heavy rainfall.
