CTPL establishes five scooter driving schools, dedicated licensing counters for female students
LAHORE, Sep 05 (APP):The City Traffic Police Lahore (CTPL) has established five scooter driving training schools and set up dedicated scooter counters at all licensing centres across the city to facilitate female students under Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s e-bike scheme.
According to a CTPL spokesperson on Saturday, the initiative was launched in line with the Chief Minister’s vision to empower women, particularly female students, and make them self-reliant. The five scooter training schools have been set up at Abshar Driving School, Liberty Khidmat Markaz, Greater Iqbal Park, Traffic Police Lines Manawan, and LOS Ferozepur Road.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi said that dedicated scooter counters had been operationalized at every licensing centre to ensure quick processing for students, who only need to bring their Computerized National Identity Cards (CNIC) to obtain a license. He added that five driving schools for scooter training and 12 schools for car driving training had been established across Lahore for women.
He highlighted that free scooter riding lessons were being provided exclusively to women at the LOS Ferozepur Road facility, alongside a women-to-women training service across all designated schools to maintain a comfortable environment for female learners.
The CTO informed that a total of 15,256 women had received training from CTPL driving schools so far, comprising 8,220 trained in car driving and 7,290 in motorcycle and scooter riding, including 1,629 women trained during the current year.
He added that empowering women through mobility would bring a visible socio-economic change, stressing that the active participation of women alongside men was vital for overall societal development.
