LAHORE, Jun 26 (APP):Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO),Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi has reviewed traffic arrangements for the central Ashura procession and directed traffic wardens to ensure smooth traffic flow and facilitate mourners as well as commuters.
During his visit to the route of the central procession and various diversion points on Friday,the CTO briefed traffic officers and wardens on the implementation of the traffic management plan.
According to the traffic plan,the central mourning procession will commence from Nisar Haveli and pass through its traditional route before culminating at Imambargah Karbala Gamay Shah under comprehensive security and traffic arrangements.
The CTO said six circle officers,210 senior traffic wardens,140 patrolling officers and more than 1,000 traffic wardens had been deployed to regulate traffic and assist road users throughout the day.
He said a dedicated Traffic Control Room had been established to monitor traffic movement while emergency vehicles would be provided uninterrupted access through specially designated routes.
CTO,Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi said traffic wardens were performing their duties alongside law enforcement agencies and other allied departments to help maintain peace and ensure the peaceful observance of Ashura.
He advised mourners to use designated parking facilities at Aiwan-e-Adl, Government Central Model High School, Data Darbar and Eye Hospital parking areas.
Additional parking arrangements had also been made near Landa Bazaar opposite Milad Chowk,Brandreth Road, Chamberlain Road and Bansanwala Bazaar.
The CTO said citizens were being updated about changing traffic conditions through FM Radio 88.6 and the Rasta App and urged the public to seek assistance through the Police Helpline 15 whenever required.
He said traffic coming from Shahdara towards Lower Mall was being diverted via Azadi Flyover towards the Railway Station while vehicles approaching from Multan Road via Chuburji were being diverted through Fall Road to Band Road.
The CTO added that heavy traffic,including buses,Mazda vehicles and trucks arriving from Ferozepur Road, was being diverted from Chuburji towards Samanabad, Gulshan Ravi and Band Road.
Heavy traffic from Band Road,Chowk Saggian towards Kutchery had also been completely diverted.
He said all entry and exit points of the city remained open while citizens were requested to cooperate with traffic police and follow the advised routes to avoid inconvenience.
