CTO orders major crackdown on e-challan defaulters

LAHORE, Jul 09 (APP):Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi on Thursday ordered a major crackdown against vehicles with outstanding e-challans, directing enforcement teams to intensify action against habitual traffic violators.
According to a City Lahore Traffic Police (CTPL) spokesperson, the CTO chaired a meeting with e-challan recovery squads and provided them with a list of the top 100 vehicles involved in repeated traffic violations.
The spokesperson said more than 100 vehicles had committed traffic violations not just 10, 20 or 50 times, but hundreds of times, reflecting persistent disregard for traffic laws.
The CTO directed e-challan squads to work in close coordination with the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) to effectively trace and impound such vehicles. He said e-challans were being issued through the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system for more than 20 categories of traffic violations.
He further ordered that vehicles with unpaid e-challans be impounded immediately, adding that special enforcement teams had been activated to ensure strict implementation of the campaign.
Shirazi said e-challan defaulters had been barred from availing 14 key police services, including driving licence-related services, character certificates and police verification facilities.
He said the PSCA, Police Khidmat Centres and the driving licence system had been integrated to facilitate enforcement against habitual defaulters.
The CTO said a strict crackdown was also underway against motorists tampering with vehicle number plates to evade e-challans.
He urged motorists to comply with traffic rules, added those who followed the law would not face penalties. He said that the traffic management system was being further digitised and streamlined to enhance public safety and ensure safer travel.
