Committee for “Grow More Cotton Campaign 2026” at his office and reviewed the progress on cotton cultivation across the district, evaluate efforts to achieve cultivation targets, and formulate strategies to address challenges faced by farmers.
During the meeting, Deputy Director Agriculture (Extension) Muhammad Shafiq presented a detailed briefing on the current status of cotton cultivation.
He informed the participants that weather conditions during the current season had generally remained favorable for cotton farming and that market forecasts indicate encouraging cotton prices, creating strong prospects for profitable returns for growers.
According to the briefing, a target of cultivating cotton on 567,000 acres had been set for Bahawalpur district during the current season. So far, cotton cultivation had been completed on approximately 525,000 acres, while efforts had been accelerated at the field level to achieve the remaining target area.
Addressing the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Syed Hassan Raza directed the Agriculture and Revenue Departments to strengthen their outreach efforts by engaging directly with farmers at the village and farm level. He emphasized the need for providing comprehensive technical guidance and advisory services to growers to improve productivity and maximize per-acre yields.
The Deputy Commissioner also instructed the Irrigation department to ensure strict implementation of water distribution schedule (Warabandi) across the canal network to guarantee fair and equitable water allocation. He stressed that uninterrupted water supply should be ensured up to the tail-end areas of irrigation channels so that no farmer faces difficulties due to water shortages.
He further directed revenue officials to conduct regular field visits and educate farmers about modern agricultural technologies, innovative farming practices, and efficient crop management techniques that could enhance productivity and profitability.
Syed Hassan Raza underscored the importance of ensuring the availability of quality seeds, fertilizers, and agricultural inputs throughout the district.
He called for strict monitoring of both prices and quality standards to protect farmers from exploitation and to ensure they have access to reliable agricultural resources.
Officials from relevant departments also attended the meeting and briefed participants on the measures currently being implemented to achieve cotton cultivation targets and support the farming community.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from all stakeholders to work collectively toward increasing cotton cultivation, improving crop yields, and strengthening the agricultural economy of Bahawalpur district through coordinated field-level interventions and farmer support initiatives.
