CHICHAWATNI, Jul 30 (APP):The COMSATS university on Thursday launched a tree-planting campaign as part of efforts to promote environmental sustainability, combat climate change and encourage a greener academic environment.
The initiative has been launched under the vision of the university’s Rector, Professor Dr. Raheel Qamar, to transform educational institutions into environmentally sustainable campuses.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Campus Director Professor Dr. Shahid Saroya said trees played a critical role in protecting the environment, preserving ecological balance and securing a healthier future for generations to come.
He stressed that educational institutions had a responsibility to raise environmental awareness and inspire sustainable practices among students and the wider community.
As part of the ceremony, prominent Environmentalist Ghulam Rasool received a commemorative shield in recognition of his contribution to an initiative to plant 100,000 trees across the division.
Saroya also commended the active participation of faculty members, administrative officers and staff, reaffirming the university’s commitment to ensuring the success of the tree-planting campaign.
