LAHORE, Apr 01 (APP):Commissioner Marryam Khan on Wednesday chaired a meeting to review early pre-monsoon arrangements across the division and issued strict directives to all district administrations to ensure comprehensive preparedness in view of changing weather patterns.
During the meeting, held at the WASA Head Office, the Commissioner directed all Deputy Commissioners of Lahore Division to remain in close coordination with the Meteorological Department and ensure timely implementation of preventive measures. She emphasized that desilting operations must be expedited, while backup generators for disposal and lift stations should be fully functional to avoid any disruption during heavy rainfall.
The Commissioner said that drainage systems, canals, and nullahs must be cleared of garbage and waste without delay, adding that all SOPs prepared for Lahore should also be strictly implemented across other districts of the division. She further instructed authorities to identify and address dilapidated and vulnerable buildings in order to minimize risks during rainfall events.
Marryam Khan stressed the importance of continuous monitoring of urban flooding points, particularly underpasses and low-lying areas, directing that special teams and machinery must remain on standby. She also ordered strict monitoring of water flow in River Ravi and Sutlej, ensuring real-time surveillance of sensitive points.
The meeting was briefed by MD WASA Ghufran Ahmad, who informed that underpasses, disposal stations, and rain gauges have been fully automated, while a central monitoring and control system is operational round the clock from WASA headquarters to oversee critical points.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioners of Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib and Kasur, senior officials of WASA, Rescue 1122, Irrigation Department and other relevant authorities via video link.
