Commissioner reviews PHA performance, directs timely completion of green projects across Rawalpindi
RAWALPINDI, Jul 30 (APP):Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Salman Ghani on Thursday chaired a review meeting on the performance and ongoing development projects of the Punjab Horticulture Authority (PHA), directing officials to complete all green initiatives within the stipulated timeline to make Rawalpindi a greener, more beautiful and environmentally friendly city.
The meeting was attended by Director General PHA Ahmed Hassan Ranjha, Director Development Syed Nazarat Ali Shah and officers of the relevant departments. During the meeting, the PHA gave a detailed briefing on its operational framework, jurisdiction, ongoing projects and future strategy.
The participants were informed that the authority is providing horticulture and maintenance services in 46 union councils of Rawal Town and 21 union councils of Potohar Town, while managing 53 parks and green belts across its jurisdiction. The briefing further stated that 12 pedestrian sit-outs, vertical plantation projects, decorative lighting on Metro bus pillars and children’s recreational facilities had already been completed.
Officials said that the rehabilitation and upgradation of the public park on Adiala Road was progressing rapidly, while deposit work on the Ring Road green belt and plantation project was also underway. Under the Green Corridor initiative, a target of planting 40,000 saplings has been set along both sides of Ring Road, of which 24,200 have already been planted. Two tube wells are also being installed to meet irrigation requirements of the green belt.
The meeting was informed that the green belt and plantation deposit work at Marka-e-Haq Chowk had been completed. Out of 10 park renovation projects, five have been completed while the remaining five are around 90 per cent complete.
The PHA also briefed the meeting about its large-scale nursery project spread over 1,000 kanals in Gorakhpur. Work on 200 kanals has been completed with 200,000 saplings prepared, while development of the remaining 800 kanals will be carried out in phases.
Addressing the meeting, Commissioner Salman Ghani said parks, green belts and tree plantation play a vital role in providing a healthy and pleasant environment to citizens. He directed the authorities to ensure timely completion of all ongoing projects, maintain high standards of upkeep and further expand green areas across the division.
He also instructed officials to decorate parks, green belts and other public places with Kashmir-themed displays in connection with Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir.
