Commissioner reviews Peshawar Road underpasses; orders completion by November

RAWALPINDI, Oct 15 (APP): Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Salman Ghani on Thursday inspected the under-construction underpasses at Race Course Chowk and Charing Cross on Peshawar Road, directing executing agencies to maintain work pace, adhere strictly to quality benchmarks, and ensure project completion by November this year.

During a detailed briefing, the Superintending Engineer of Highway Rawalpindi informed the commissioner that overall physical progress across both infrastructure projects has reached approximately 60 percent.
Major structural components including piling, deck slabs and capping beams have been successfully executed, while barrier installation, underpass excavation, utility relocation, drainage network development, and surface road construction remain actively underway.
According to engineering specifications, the Race Course Underpass will feature two dedicated lanes for northbound traffic along with three surface-level lanes to facilitate turning movements.
The Charing Cross Underpass is designed for southbound traffic, offering two underpass lanes complemented by two surface-level lanes.
Concurrently, road rehabilitation and expansion work from Bungalow No. 276 to Raffay Mall is progressing, with utility lines being moved underground to eliminate roadside obstructions.
Reviewing site operations, Salman Ghani directed traffic police and administrative officials to enforce effective traffic management plans, provide clear alternative routes, and minimize public inconvenience during construction.
Emphasizing environmental protection, the commissioner instructed authorities to rigorously execute anti-smog protocols at all construction zones, including continuous water sprinkling and dust suppression measures to safeguard air quality.
He reiterated that the timely completion of these key infrastructure projects will resolve chronic congestion along Peshawar Road and cater to regional traffic demands for decades to come.
