Commissioner orders strict monitoring of Eid cattle markets

RAWALPINDI, May 14 (APP): Commissioner Rawalpindi Aamir Khattak on Thursday directed the concerned to ensure maximum facilities at all cattle markets, including foolproof security, clean drinking water, adequate lighting, cleanliness, CCTV surveillance, monitoring of entry and exit points and an effective traffic management system.
Chairing a meeting to review arrangements for cattle markets being established across Rawalpindi Division ahead of Eid-ul-Adha 2026, he also directed officials to ensure strict implementation of Section 144 across all districts to enforce a complete ban on the sale of sacrificial animals outside notified points.
Officials informed the meeting that government cattle markets would remain operational round the clock from May 16 until Eid-ul-Adha.
Three cattle markets would be established in Attock District, including sites on Main Peshawar Road, Main Pindi Gheb Road and near Civil Hospital on CPEC Link Road.
In Chakwal District, a market would be set up at Chak Naurang Stop on Main Chakwal-Rawalpindi Road, while Talagang District would have a market on Mianwali Road Main Bypass. Another cattle market would be established at Mangal Bypass near Kallar Syedan in Rawalpindi District.
The meeting was further informed that, besides the government-run markets, traditional cattle markets would continue to operate on their designated days.
District administrations have also identified special sale points where the buying and selling of sacrificial animals would be permitted, while the sale of animals at unauthorised locations would remain banned.
In Rawalpindi District, eight sale points have been notified by the district administration, including plots near Bhatta Chowk, Mouza Sheikhpur, Mouza Ranial on Chakri Road and near Rawat Police Station on GT Road in Rawalpindi Cantt.
Other notified sale points include Mazhaba Khana Galiana Road in Gujar Khan, near Sharif Hospital Stop on GT Road in Taxila, HIT near Hathar Bazaar Timber Market Road,Taxila, Bypass Chowk Kayal in Kallar Syedan and Sakhi Sabz Wari Tangi Road in Kahuta.
Additional Commissioner Coordination Zenia Humayun, Director Local Government Sibtain Kazmi, the chief officer of Municipal Corporation Rawalpindi and other relevant officials attended the meeting, while deputy commissioners from Attock, Jhelum, Murree and Chakwal joined through video link.
