BAHAWALPUR, Aug 05 (APP): The Bahawalpur divisional and district administrations organised a special ceremony and a large solidarity rally to mark Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir and express support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The ceremony commenced with Commissioner Bahawalpur Division Irfan Ali Kathia and Regional Police Officer (RPO) Ghazi Muhammad Salahuddin jointly hoisting the national flags of Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). At the outset of the event, participants observed a one-minute silence to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in Jammu and Kashmir. Attendees also reaffirmed their solidarity with the Kashmiri people and voiced support for their right to self-determination.
Following the ceremony, Commissioner Irfan Kathia led a solidarity and protest rally from the Deputy Commissioner’s Office to the historic Farid Gate. The rally was attended by Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur Syed Hassan Raza, District Police Officer (DPO) Rana Abdul Wahab, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Dr. Ayesha Khan, Assistant Commissioner Bahawalpur City Iqra Mubeen, other district officials, members of the business community, lawyers, students, representatives of civil society organisations, and a large number of citizens. Participants carried the national flags of Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, along with banners and placards expressing solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir. During the march, participants chanted slogans in support of the Kashmiri people and against India’s policies in the region.
Addressing the gathering, speakers said that India’s decision of August 5, 2019, to revoke the special constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir constituted a violation of international law, United Nations resolutions, and internationally recognized principles. They urged the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the international community, and global human rights organizations to take notice of the situation in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir and play an effective role in supporting the rights of the Kashmiri people. The participants reiterated that the people of Pakistan would continue extending political, moral, and diplomatic support to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and would continue raising awareness internationally regarding their cause.
