Commissioner launches drive to make govt offices plastic-free
FAISALABAD, Jul 27 (APP):Divisional Commissioner Imran Hamid Sheikh has directed all government institutions across the Faisalabad Division to be transformed into plastic-free zones as part of an initiative to reduce plastic waste and promote environmentally friendly practices.
He formally launched the plastic-free campaign from the Commissioner’s Office, where the use of plastic water bottles and plastic shopping bags has been banned in favour of eco-friendly alternatives.
According to a spokesperson for the local administration, the Divisional Commissioner has instructed all administrative departments in the four districts of the division to implement similar measures by replacing disposable plastic water bottles with glass bottles and encouraging the use of water dispensers in government offices.
As part of the campaign, signboards bearing the message “No More Plastic Use” are being installed at prominent locations within the Commissioner’s Office to raise awareness among employees and visitors about reducing plastic consumption.
The Divisional Commissioner also directed the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to intensify public awareness campaigns and launch effective enforcement against the use of plastic products in markets, bazaars, and commercial establishments across the division.
Speaking on the occasion, Imran Hamid Sheikh said eliminating plastic use had become an urgent environmental necessity to curb pollution and protect natural resources. He stressed the need for practical, visible, and result-oriented measures instead of symbolic efforts.
He urged citizens to replace plastic shopping bags with reusable cloth bags and actively promote environmental protection at every level of society. He said public participation was essential to make the campaign successful and ensure a clean and healthy environment for future generations.
The Divisional Commissioner added that the district and divisional administrations had already launched a public awareness campaign, but the objectives of the plastic-free initiative could only be achieved through the active cooperation of the public.
