Commissioner for strict monitoring of transport fares ahead of Eid

MULTAN, Mar 13 (APP): Commissioner Multan Division Amir Karim Khan on Friday directed the authorities concerned to strictly monitor public transport fares during the upcoming Eidul Fitr and warned that strict legal action would be taken against transporters involved in overcharging passengers.
He issued these directions while presiding over a review meeting regarding Eid arrangements, where preparations related to cleanliness, security and public facilities were discussed in detail. The commissioner directed that special monitoring of fares should be ensured during Eid holidays to protect passengers from excessive charges. He also ordered complete inspection of all public transport vehicles and directed that fitness certificates be ensured, assigning the responsibility to the secretary of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA).
Amir Karim Khan further instructed authorities to maintain strict cleanliness at bus stands and terminals and warned that stern action would be taken against canteens selling substandard food items. He directed the Punjab Food Authority to carry out thorough checking of bakery items.
He also ordered special arrangements for cleanliness of Eidgahs and mosques, directing that routes leading to prayer grounds should be cleaned and widened for the convenience of worshippers. Floral gates should be installed outside Eidgahs to provide a pleasant and festive environment for citizens, he added.
The commissioner directed that the existing Ramazan lighting across the city be converted into “Eid Mubarak” and “Chand Raat Mubarak” themes on the eve of Chand Raat, and ordered that decorative lighting should continue for three nights of Eid.
He further instructed the authorities to complete cleanliness operations at parks, picnic points and graveyards before Eid and to make special arrangements at graveyards and public places due to the expected rush of visitors.
Amir Karim Khan directed that control rooms should remain fully functional and foolproof security arrangements be ensured during Eid. He also ordered enhanced patrolling by police and Rescue 1122 along canals and waterways.
The commissioner said the waste management company should ensure sanitation across the division through private sector support and directed officials to focus particularly on the cleanliness of parks and green belts, adding that waste containers must not be placed outside parks.
He also directed that clean drinking water should be ensured at all bus terminals and petrol pumps. Departments including WASA, Waste Management Company, Rescue, Health and the Parks and Horticulture Authority were instructed to issue duty rosters for Eid.
The commissioner emphasized that staff should remain present in the field to maintain the best sanitation arrangements during the festival. He also directed the establishment of “Suthra Punjab” camps across the division and ordered special attention to cleanliness and beautification of all entry and exit points of the city.
Deputy commissioners of the division gave detailed briefings on the arrangements, while officers of relevant departments attended the meeting.
