Commissioner for completion of uplift work ahead of Muharram

Commissioner Amir Karim Khan directed all relevant departments to complete ongoing development, repair and beautification projects on Muharram procession and Majalis routes in Muharram-ul-Haram.

MULTAN, Jun 16 (APP): Commissioner Amir Karim Khan directed all relevant departments to complete ongoing development, repair and beautification projects on Muharram procession and Majalis routes in Muharram-ul-Haram.
The directives were issued during a review meeting chaired by the commissioner to assess the progress of Public Development Programme (PDP) and beautification schemes being executed along procession routes. The meeting was attended by deputy commissioners, officials of WASA, municipal corporations, municipal committees, development authorities and other concerned departments.
Reviewing the pace of work, Amir Karim Khan stressed that all procession and Majalis routes must be cleared of obstacles before Muharram in order to avert any trouble to mourners.
He directed officers to conduct field inspections personally and ensure that even minor deficiencies are rectified immediately.
The commissioner ordered authorities to secure open manholes, excavation sites and other hazardous locations, while directing the immediate removal of construction material and debris from procession routes.
He directed officials to thoroughly clear roads of stones, gravel and other hard objects after water-bound works. He also ordered for maximum water sprinkling on roads to minimise dust and provide relief from the prevailing heatwave.
Amir Karim Khan further directed municipal corporation, Municipal committees and other departments to ensure uninterrupted functioning of streetlights, floodlights and backup generators along all procession routes. He directed WASA, municipal corporations and other departments to remain fully alert and respond promptly to complaints and emergency situations during Muharram.
Commissioner ordered to ensure special cleanliness arrangements under the Suthra Punjab Programme at Muharram routes while sanitation staff asked to remain fully mobilised and ensure the immediate removal of garbage and waste from all routes and gathering points.
In view of the intense summer temperatures, he directed authorities to enhance arrangements for sabeels, water coolers and the supply of cold drinking water to facilitate mourners.
The commissioner also underscored the importance of close coordination with procession organisers and peace committees.
He directed all departments to remain alert, continue effective field monitoring and work in close coordination to ensure that Muharram-ul-Haram is observed in a peaceful, secure and organized manner.
