Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Sunday directed all departments concerned to remain on high alert as the monsoon season commenced across the province, ordering field officers to ensure timely emergency response and effective rainwater management.
CM orders continuous monitoring of drains, canals; flood response

LAHORE, Jul 12 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Sunday directed all departments concerned to remain on high alert as the monsoon season commenced across the province, ordering field officers to ensure timely emergency response and effective rainwater management.
The CM directed all commissioners, deputy commissioners and field officers to stay fully vigilant, saying there was no room for negligence or irresponsibility during the monsoon spell.
She also directed the authorities to ensure the immediate drainage of rainwater from urban and low-lying areas and ordered continuous monitoring of Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) operations to prevent urban flooding.
CM Maryam Nawaz also directed the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Control Room and District Emergency Operation Centres (DEOCs) across Punjab to remain fully operational and alert. She instructed Rescue 1122, WASA and other emergency agencies to keep their personnel and machinery ready to respond to any emergency.
The CM ordered continuous monitoring of storm-water drains, nullahs and canal water flows, while directing the Irrigation Department to keep its teams fully prepared to deal with any flood-related situation.
She directed the authorities to ensure that all manholes in urban and rural areas remain properly covered and also directed immediate removal of water from identified choking points to maintain normal traffic flow.
CM Maryam Nawaz also ordered strict implementation of safety measures at construction sites to prevent accidents during heavy rains and called for special monitoring of dilapidated and structurally vulnerable buildings.
She directed the authorities to make special arrangements to keep traffic moving on major roads and highways, while instructing the Punjab Safe Cities Authority and the City Traffic Police to remain on high alert and maintain public guidance and coordination throughout the monsoon period.
The CM said that all field teams should remain fully prepared and proactive to safeguard the lives and property of citizens during the ongoing monsoon season.
