CHINIOT, Jul 13 (APP): The district administration on Monday launched its annual monsoon tree plantation campaign, with senior civil and police officials planting saplings at key public sites and urging citizens to join efforts to combat climate change and improve the environment.
Deputy Commissioner Ayesha Rizwan, District Police Officer (DPO) Dr. Naveed Atif, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Muhammad Ahmar Ali and other officials inaugurated the campaign by planting saplings at the under-construction District Complex on Jhumra Road, the new District Headquarters Hospital and the Government Islamia College ground. Officers also offered prayers for a greener environment, stronger environmental protection and cleaner air for future generations.
Speaking to the media, Deputy Commissioner Ayesha Rizwan and DPO Dr. Naveed Atif described tree plantation as both a national obligation and a shared social responsibility. They said expanding green cover is essential to mitigating the adverse impacts of climate change and creating a healthier environment, while appealing to residents to actively participate in the campaign and help protect newly planted saplings.
Officials from the Forest Department, Buildings Department and other relevant agencies also attended the ceremony. The district administration said a variety of indigenous and ornamental saplings would be planted across the district during the monsoon season as part of a sustained campaign to make Chiniot greener, more environmentally friendly and climate resilient.
