Book reading culture needs revival: Asma Ismail Butt

RAWALPINDI, Jun 30 (APP): Renowned writer and artist Asma Ismail Butt on Tuesday termed books as the ultimate companion for human intellect, stressing that cultivating a robust reading habit is essential for broadening knowledge and fostering positive thinking in society.
She expressed these views while sharing her reflections on “Khush Bayaniyan,” the newly published book authored by prominent writer Allah Ditta Najmi.
The book is a comprehensive collection of the author’s lifelong experiences, historical reminiscences of Rawalpindi, and analytical profiles of personalities from diverse schools of thought. Notably, the publication also chronicles the golden era of stage drama and acknowledges the literary and artistic contributions of Asma Ismail Butt herself.
Commending the author, Asma described “Khush Bayaniyan” as a beautifully crafted treasury of memories and observations, recommending it as a must-read for all literature enthusiasts. She extended her gratitude to Allah Ditta Najmi for preserving crucial cultural and historical milestones through his writings.
She noted that while the society does not lack talented writers or discerning readers, the traditional culture of book reading has witnessed a noticeable decline.
Expressing concern over the growing digital distraction, she pointed out that excessive reliance on mobile phones and the internet has distanced the younger generation from literature. She urged the youth to reconnect with newspapers and books to enhance their critical thinking and cognitive development, emphasizing that the pursuit of learning must remain a lifelong endeavor.
