LAHORE, Apr 16 (APP): The Punjab government has approved the provision of new electric buses in 10 districts of the province.
A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in which approval was given to provide new electric buses in 10 districts.
The meeting reviewed the progress of the mass transit system project in Gujranwala and Faisalabad, while the Chief Minister sought a plan to run 1500 electric buses at the tehsil level.
In the briefing, the Chief Minister was told that electric buses will be provided in Attock, Bhakkar, Hafizabad, Khanewal, Layyah, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Mandi Bahauddin and Okara.
The briefing further informed that a special bus depot will be established in each division for electric buses, 100 electric buses will reach Punjab this month, 350 by mid-May and 264 by the end of June.
In addition, 1.25 lakh passengers benefited on 21 routes under free transport and 3560 bus trips were made under the free transport program.
On the other hand, a progress report on the first e-taxi scheme in Punjab was also presented and it was informed that 194 e-taxi buses will arrive in May and 208 in June.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister directed to complete the construction and repair of metro bus stations as soon as possible. She approved the new design, and approved the e-bike project for government employees.
